We facilitate positive interpersonal relationships between adults and children through shared-reading for at-risk youth and incarcerated family members. Incarcerated adults' commitment to their children and youth are made manifest when Reading Legacies personnel assists them reading on DVDs that are sent home to the children along with books. (Children react strongly to the image of their parent reading to them.) The second program involves assisting at-risk youth to gain self esteem and personal satisfaction by giving of themselves through intergenerational shared-reading experience with younger children, primarily in Head Start Centers.
To empower children as valued family & community members through intergenerational shared reading experiences.
