Doors of Change, also known as Photocharity, has been helping the estimated 2,000+ homeless street youth in San Diego for over 15 years. We provide services to youth ages 12-24 through our award-winning Taking Music & Art to the Streets Program (TMATS). There have been over 3,000 youth visits to TMATS in the last three years. At TMATS, youth receive free music and art lessons, a hot meal, clean clothes, hygiene products, and more. Those who attend six sessions receive a free musical instrument or $50 in art supplies. Over 210 youth have earned instruments. Earning an instrument or art supplies builds self-esteem and provides youth with a way to earn money on the streets. In January of 2016, Doors of Change opened its Housing Program for Self Sufficiency. This 18-24-month residential program serves up to six homeless youth, ages 18-24. Doors of Change provides 24/7 supervision, job training, health and wellness education, any needed therapy, and other wraparound services. Youth in the program are required to work at least 30 hours per week and contribute 30% of their earnings to rent and 30% of their earnings to a personal savings.
Solving youth homelessness through empowerment and self-sufficiency. Provide safe-housing, life-skills, and education training.
